What Does Hubby Homemaker Do???

Hubby Homemaker is all about adventure, he takes his kids places to discover things…

OMSI in Portland is ONE our favorite places to play and learn new things. I want to discover what each one my kids’ gifts and deepest longings are, because I truly believe they are WORLD CHANGERS!!!

So what do my kids do with their amazing developing minds?!?

They come up with ideas like this…

And create things like this…

And THIS…

My son Truth told me it was “Happy ABC Day”and that I should “blow out the candles!” Never underestimate the power of Play dough!

Many times we go to our friend’s house and learn to garden. When it comes time to eat, the littlest of helpers are the ones who are inspired!!

I want them to never loose there sense of wonder…

My eldest daughter Allie loves to explore the city! Recently we got to spend time just her and I, running haphazardly in downtown Portland… man she has a lot of energy! I think ten year olds make the world spin faster.

Her and I found some amazing things you wouldn’t normally experience on an our outing with an agenda!

What art gallery is open after hours and is completely empty ???

This ONE!…

Apparently he likes my tea…

We finished our date with tea and soda at Stumptown Coffee and found this place on our way back to the car…

The 24 Hour Church of Elvis, what the heck is that??? Good times for sure!

The Richardsons are big on family. We love, we protect and we never give up on each other!

Multnomah Falls is one our favorite places in the world and it’s only twenty five minutes away!

I am forever fascinated with God’s MIND BLOWING creation.

My life gains better perspective the more aware I become of how small I am in comparison to how GREAT my Creator is!

I Cherish these two women more than I can express!

Hubby Homemaker believes that in order to truly have a happy healthy family you must value friends and never underestimate their roll in raising up the next generation of WORLD CHANGERS!

We lovingly challenge each other but knowing we all need a little grace and light hearted understanding sometimes!…

I am learning the art of recuperation is key. I realize I do this best when my imagination runs wild.

Listening to the dial tone transported me into another time, a time when waiting was a virtue and technology was for connecting with someone you cared about…

And now you have seen a portion of the life of the man they lovingly (and sometimes sarcastically) refer to as Hubby Homemaker

Jessica and I support each other in everything we do. We share a very close life, filled with openness and a desire to understand the others deepest desires and potential.

Jessica is truly a hero to me!

Here are some amazing things she does that I love to support her in and tell others about!

Kick @ss Dads

The making of “Hubby Homemaker”

For all the men out there that are wanting to be kick @ss dads or already are, this blog is for you! And for all the women who think their man is only half the omelet he claims to be… This is also for you!

At the beginning of my “at home” trilogy, yes, before I was “Hubby Homemaker”, I found myself unhappy and feeling without purpose. Though it had been my dream to have more time with my kids to teach them, and support their gifting and desires, I couldn’t see how good my life was and how complete I really was. I felt useless like a non-breasted thing that needed a bodily transplant in order to fulfill my roll. I struggled for weeks and then one day it dawned on me … I was meant to do this and I am fully equipped to not only support and encourage my kids but also to nurture and protect on a Superdad level! I didn’t need to be able to perform like a woman!… I already had everything built into me by my Creator to handle each and every situation as a father.

Parenting for me has had many great challenges and walls to scale but I always have the support from Jessica to trust God and keep trudging on. Together her and I are raising a family of innovators and world changers!

So for all men out there considering changing their “lifestyles” to becoming more involved in the their child’s life, don’t hesitate! Don’t let the anti-dad propaganda discourage you. Get the support you need and don’t doubt yourself. Men are meant for parenting, this generation needs fathers and also needs the support from both parents.

Religion Stinks!… God Doesn’t.

I grew up in an occult. When I was very young they would have us sing a song called “Follow the Prophet”. In a mesmerizing tone we would sing out the last words of the song, “he knows the way, don’t go astray”.

When I turned eight I went from (in the words of my elders) being completely innocent to needing to be baptized, which meant being fully submerged in a “sacred” hot tub! It took a long time for my turn because the girls went first and their hair kept floating to the top…. “Cousin It” went before me and seemingly three weeks later I was dunked in that sacred hot tub and then… I was all WET! Oh, and was told that the “holy ghost” was NOW guiding me!

The “holy ghost” seemed to be a nice guy. When I was lonely I would talk to him, but there were somethings I never would share with him. Like the guilt I felt from having oral sex when I was five. I took the blame for what happened because the boy who forced sex on me loved me and was my friend. Even though he told me he would kill me, I still liked him and didn’t want him to be hurt by his dad. The boy was sixteen and mentally challenged, his dad (a bishop in the occult church) was an angry man!… One time, I watched as he beat the boy, screaming profanities and calling him worthless. I loved the boy and didn’t want him hurt,  so it was “my fault” what  happened to me…. Hmm, that “holy ghost” guy would have really come in handy around that time, to bad I had to wait till I was EIGHT!

When I look back from where I’ve come, I see my childhood religion, one that caused pain and confusion, a religion that bred abuse. Throughout my years growing up, I experienced more frustration from religion as I searched for hope and belonging. Eventually I became suicidal before finding a life altering  relationship with God himself. Jesus spoke to my heart, telling me He knew me and wanted me anyway! I knew at this point this was more than religion, more than just a set of rules. I had the God who created me, on my side asking me to walk with Him and be loved by Him!

Nine years later I am now a MEMBER of a church. This might sound like a death sentence, but really it’s FREEDOM. This church is not a stinky religion that seeks to control it’s people. In fact, it has lots of people like my wife and I who are deeply in love with Jesus Christ, who are striving to become more like Him, while loving each other and reaching out to others!

My life has been full of religion, but now that stinky religion has been replaced with fulfilling relationships… So while religion stinks… God doesn’t!

Quit laughin’ at me!

I awoke Sunday morning, and turning over looked strait into the big happy eyes of my five month old, Baby Q! As soon as I greeted him, he began to giggle… Why was he doing that silly baby giggle?

In our house it’s a normal thing to hear one of us (normally me) talking in a goofball voice, than expecting the following, laughter, crazy baby squeals and other sounds that only the infant vocals can produce. As I looked at Baby Q that Sunday morning, not even a smile was necessary to set him off! In fact, I even tried looking away, and the giggling still continued to ensue! What was up with this kid!! Why was I so freek’n hilarious to him?!! Later I found out the answer to this question as I gazed into the bathroom mirror and saw this…

This is how a self cut mohawk looks first thing in the morning (I forgot I had done that the night before). Baby Q was witnessing quite the freak show…

I laughed!
